Moneta — Privacy Policy

Moneta ("the app") is a personal, offline-first multi-currency expense tracker. This policy explains what data the app handles. It is written to be true to how the app actually works: your data stays on your device.

TL;DR

No account. No sign-in. No analytics. No ads. No third-party trackers.
All your financial data stays on your phone. We have no servers and never receive it.
The only network calls fetch public currency exchange rates — those requests contain only a 3-letter currency code (e.g. USD), never your transactions or location.

Data the app uses

Approximate / precise location (GPS)	To detect your current country and auto-select the local input currency	Used on-device only. Coordinates are passed to the OS geocoder to get a country code; we store only the country code, never the coordinates. Not transmitted to us (we have no server) and not shared. Optional — you can turn auto-detect off in Settings.
Exchange rates	Convert foreign amounts to your home currency	Fetched from public APIs (currency-api by fawazahmed0; Frankfurter / ECB) over HTTPS. The request sends only a currency code.

Data we do NOT collect or share

We do not collect personal identifiers, contacts, photos, or usage analytics.
We do not share or sell any data with third parties.
The app contains no advertising SDKs.

Data security

Financial data is stored in the app's private storage and is excluded from device cloud backup (allowBackup=false).
Optional app lock (fingerprint / device PIN) protects access.
All network traffic uses HTTPS.

Data retention & deletion

All data is local. Delete individual entries in the app, or uninstall the app to erase everything.
You can also export a full backup (.moneta / CSV) to your own storage at any time.

Children

The app is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date will change accordingly.
